Description

A delightful blend of sweet and tart flavors, these homemade candied orange peels are perfect as a snack or a garnish for various dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large oranges
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Peel the oranges, removing as much of the white pith as possible. Cut the peels into strips.
  2. In a pot, combine the orange peels and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for about 30 minutes. Drain the peels.
  3. In the same pot, combine the sugar and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil and add the drained peels. Simmer until the peels become translucent and the syrup thickens, about 45 minutes.
  4. Remove the peels and let them cool on a wire rack for a few hours.
  5. Once cool, toss the peels in granulated sugar to coat. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

For the best texture, ensure you remove as much white pith as possible. Use fresh oranges for the best flavor.
