Description
A sweet and chewy treat made from orange peels, perfect for snacks or desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large oranges
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Wash the oranges and cut off the ends. Slice the oranges into quarters and remove the flesh, keeping the peel.
- Cut the orange peels into thin strips.
- In a saucepan, combine the orange peels and enough water to cover them. Bring to a boil. Then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Drain and repeat this two more times to soften the peels.
- In a clean saucepan, combine 2 cups of water and 2 cups of sugar. Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Add the orange peels to the syrup and let it simmer gently until the peels become translucent, about 45 minutes.
- Remove the peels and place them on a wire rack to cool.
- Once cooled, you can roll the candied peels in sugar for added sweetness.
- Allow to dry completely before storing in an airtight container.
Notes
For added flavor, consider adding spices or using brown sugar.
