Description

A sweet and chewy treat made from orange peels, perfect for snacks or desserts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large oranges
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Wash the oranges and cut off the ends. Slice the oranges into quarters and remove the flesh, keeping the peel.
  2. Cut the orange peels into thin strips.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the orange peels and enough water to cover them. Bring to a boil. Then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Drain and repeat this two more times to soften the peels.
  4. In a clean saucepan, combine 2 cups of water and 2 cups of sugar. Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar dissolves.
  5. Add the orange peels to the syrup and let it simmer gently until the peels become translucent, about 45 minutes.
  6. Remove the peels and place them on a wire rack to cool.
  7. Once cooled, you can roll the candied peels in sugar for added sweetness.
  8. Allow to dry completely before storing in an airtight container.

Notes

For added flavor, consider adding spices or using brown sugar.
