Ingredients

- 2 large fresh oranges (zested and juiced)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 packet unflavored gelatin
- 1 teaspoon orange extract (optional)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
- A pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions
- Zest the oranges and juice them. Set the zest and juice aside.
- Combine orange juice, water, sugar, and corn syrup in a saucepan. Heat and stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes to thicken slightly.
- Bloom the gelatin in cold water, then add it to the simmering syrup.
- Stir in butter and orange zest, cooking for an additional 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and cool for 1-2 hours.
- Pour into a dish or molds and refrigerate for 4-6 hours until firm.
- Remove from molds, cut into pieces, and dust with powdered sugar.
- Serve and savor your Old Fashioned Orange Candy!
Notes
Use fresh oranges for the best flavor. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
