Description

A delightful treat that brings a burst of citrus flavor, made from fresh oranges, perfect for sharing with family and friends.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large fresh oranges (zested and juiced)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 packet unflavored gelatin
  • 1 teaspoon orange extract (optional)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
  • A pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Zest the oranges and juice them. Set the zest and juice aside.
  2. Combine orange juice, water, sugar, and corn syrup in a saucepan. Heat and stir until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes to thicken slightly.
  4. Bloom the gelatin in cold water, then add it to the simmering syrup.
  5. Stir in butter and orange zest, cooking for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and cool for 1-2 hours.
  7. Pour into a dish or molds and refrigerate for 4-6 hours until firm.
  8. Remove from molds, cut into pieces, and dust with powdered sugar.
  9. Serve and savor your Old Fashioned Orange Candy!

Notes

Use fresh oranges for the best flavor. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
