  • 6–8 small white boiler onions or pearl onions, peeled
  • 4 cups water or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegan butter
  • 1 piece bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Peel the small boiler onions and set them aside.
  2. In a pot, heat olive oil or vegan butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the peeled onions and sauté for a few minutes until slightly golden.
  4. Pour in the water or vegetable broth and add the bay leaf, thyme, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20 minutes until the onions are tender.
  6. Stir in the apple cider vinegar or lemon juice before serving.
