- 6–8 small white boiler onions or pearl onions, peeled
- 4 cups water or vegetable broth
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegan butter
- 1 piece bay leaf
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
Instructions
- Peel the small boiler onions and set them aside.
- In a pot, heat olive oil or vegan butter over medium heat.
- Add the peeled onions and sauté for a few minutes until slightly golden.
- Pour in the water or vegetable broth and add the bay leaf, thyme, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20 minutes until the onions are tender.
- Stir in the apple cider vinegar or lemon juice before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme. Don’t skip the vinegar or lemon juice; it brightens the dish.
