Description

A flavorful chicken dish topped with smoky bacon, tangy barbecue sauce, and melty cheddar cheese, perfect for weeknights or game days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the bacon until crisp, about 5–7 minutes. Move the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to drain.
  3. When cool, crumble the bacon into small pieces. Set aside.
  4. Rub both sides of each chicken breast with olive oil. Evenly sprinkle garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper over both sides of the chicken.
  5. Place a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat and let it get hot. Add the seasoned chicken breasts. Cook 4–5 minutes per side until they form a golden-brown crust.
  6. While the chicken cooks, chop the green onions and have the barbecue sauce ready.
  7. Lower the heat to medium. Pour the barbecue sauce over the seared chicken breasts.
  8. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the sauced chicken.
  9. Crumble the cooked bacon over the cheese.
  10. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven. Bake 10–12 minutes, until the chicken is fully cooked and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Remove the skillet from the oven. Sprinkle chopped green onions on top. If you want heat, sprinkle red pepper flakes.
  12. Let the chicken rest a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Pat the chicken dry before seasoning for a better sear. Use an oven-safe skillet to avoid extra dishes. Serve with a side of vegetables or a salad for a balanced meal.
