Ingredients

- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 to 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 2 tablespoons meringue powder
- Water (as needed for icing)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Decorative sprinkles and toppings (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until smooth. Add in the egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
- Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, place them onto ungreased cookie sheets, and flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass. Sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden. Let the cookies cool on wire racks.
- For decorating, mix the confectioners’ sugar, meringue powder, and water until you reach the desired consistency. Add food coloring if desired.
- Use the icing to decorate your cooled cookies and add sprinkles or toppings. Let them dry completely before serving.
Notes
Make sure your butter is softened for easy mixing and allow cookies to cool completely before decorating.
