Description

Bright and sweet candied orange slices, perfect for snacking or as a dessert topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 fresh oranges (Valencia or Navel), sliced 1/4 inch thick
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Wash the oranges and slice them into 1/4-inch rounds. Remove any seeds.
  2. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Blanch the orange slices for 10 minutes, then drain.
  3. In another pan, mix 2 cups sugar, 2 cups water, and vanilla extract. Heat until the sugar dissolves, and the mixture simmers.
  4. Add the orange slices to the syrup. Simmer on low for 60 minutes, stirring gently every 15 minutes.
  5. Carefully remove the slices with tongs and place them on a parchment-lined sheet. Let them cool for 30–45 minutes.
  6. Store in an airtight container or refrigerate for up to 1 month.

Notes

These slices can be used as a topping for desserts, added to charcuterie boards, or enjoyed as a snack.
