Description

Delightful sugar cookies perfect for Valentine’s Day, featuring a unique blend of almond and vanilla flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, unbleached
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup salted butter, cold and cut into chunks
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • Optional Buttercream Frosting: ½ cup butter, softened; 4 cups powdered sugar; 1 teaspoon vanilla extract; 2 tablespoons milk (more as needed)
  • Optional Glaze: 2 cups powdered sugar; 3 tablespoons milk; ½ teaspoon vanilla extract; 1–2 drops red food coloring; Valentine sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, stir together the flour and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the cold butter chunks and sugar for 2-3 minutes until well combined.
  4. Mix in the egg, vanilla, and almond extract until the mixture is smooth.
  5. Slowly add the flour mixture while mixing on low speed, just until the dough forms.
  6. Roll the dough on a floured surface to slightly over ¼-inch thick. Cut out your desired shapes and reroll scraps one time.
  7. Place the cut cookies on the lined baking sheets and freeze for about 5-7 minutes.
  8. Bake cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the pan for 3 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. For frosting: Beat together the softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
  11. For glaze: Whisk the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and food coloring until smooth. Dip cookies and decorate with sprinkles.

Notes

For best results, avoid overmixing the dough and ensure uniform thickness when cutting cookies.
