- 225 g unsalted butter, softened
- 200 g granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp almond extract (optional)
- 325 g all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp fine sea salt
- 150 g powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2–3 Tbsp milk (for glaze)
- ½ tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)
- Gel food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Cream butter and sugar for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Beat in egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add dry ingredients to wet, mixing just until a soft dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 2 discs, wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 180°C and line trays with parchment.
- Roll the dough to 6 mm thickness and cut out heart shapes.
- Bake for 8–11 minutes, until edges are just set.
- Cool on trays for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Whisk glaze ingredients to desired consistency, color as desired, and decorate cooled cookies.
Notes
Ensure butter is softened to room temperature for the best texture. Chill the dough well before rolling for easier handling.
