Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture, then beat until well combined.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough in half, flatten each portion into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out heart shapes.
- Place the cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Cool the cookies on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Decorate the cookies with colored icing, melted chocolate, and edible decorations as desired.
Notes
Ensure butter is at room temperature for easy mixing and avoid overbaking to keep cookies soft and chewy.
