Description

Delightful heart-shaped cookies that melt in your mouth, perfect for celebrating love on special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (unbleached)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup butter (salted, cold & cut into chunks, 2 sticks)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened, 1 stick)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk (or more as needed)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 12 drops liquid food coloring (red)
  • Sprinkles (Valentine’s Day themed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350° F.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the flour and baking powder. Set this mixture aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the cold butter and granulated sugar until smooth.
  4. Stir in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
  5. Slowly incorporate the dry flour mixture into the wet ingredients until combined.
  6. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to just over 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Cut out cookies in heart shapes or with X and O cookie cutters. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Freeze for 5-7 minutes before baking.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden.
  10. Allow to cool for 3 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to cooling racks.
  11. If using buttercream frosting, prepare as desired. If opting for a glaze, combine powdered sugar with milk, vanilla, and food coloring.

Notes

For better texture, ensure your butter is at the right temperature before creaming. Don’t over-bake the cookies; they should feel soft in the center.
