Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and dust with flour.
  2. In a medium bowl, blend flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk to combine and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and the milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
