- 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and dust with flour.
- In a medium bowl, blend flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk to combine and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until smooth.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and the milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
