Ingredients

- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup red food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
- If desired, add red food coloring and mix until evenly colored.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden.
- Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Refrigerate for longer storage or freeze for up to three months.
