- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Royal icing or colored sprinkles for decorating
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate, large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture; beat until well combined.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until the dough forms.
- Divide the dough in half, flatten into discs, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out the chilled dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut out heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
- Place the heart shapes on the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are just barely golden.
- Cool completely on a wire rack before decorating with royal icing or sprinkles.
Notes
Cookies can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for about a week. They can also be frozen for up to three months.
