Description

Delightful sugar cookies decorated with royal icing, perfect for celebrating love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Deep red royal icing (prepared separately)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  4. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place onto ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
  5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven or until golden. Let cool on wire racks.
  6. Once cool, decorate with deep red royal icing using Valentine’s cookie cutters for shapes.

Notes

To achieve the best texture, ensure butter is softened but not melted. Avoid over-mixing.
