Description

Delightful sugar cookies decorated with royal icing, perfect for Valentine’s Day sharing.


Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • Royal icing for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  4. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place them on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
  5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden in the preheated oven. Let cool on wire racks.
  6. Once cookies are completely cooled, decorate with royal icing.

Notes

For lighter texture, ensure butter is softened but not melted. Chill the dough for easier handling.
