Description

Delicious and customizable sugar cookies perfect for sharing on Valentine’s Day.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons milk
  • Decorating icing
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  5. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place them onto ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass. Sprinkle with decorative sugar, if desired.
  6. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let cool on wire racks.
  7. Once cooled, decorate the cookies with icing and sprinkles.

Notes

Use softened butter for easy blending. Don’t skip cooling the cookies before decorating to prevent icing from melting.
