Description

Light, fried dough treats with a dusting of powdered sugar, perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a sweet snack.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, combine egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Remove beignets and drain on paper towels.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.

Notes

Store beignets at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 24 hours.
